A distinctive late Victorian or Edwardian oak armchair, likely dating from circa 1890 to 1910, designed in a rustic Jacobean Revival and Arts and Crafts influenced style. The chair features a hand carved stag and sunrise crest, tall finial posts, bobbin turned spindles, shaped arms, extensive turned stretchers and a traditional woven rush seat. Comparable oak rush-seated armchairs with carved crests are commonly dated to around 1890. The frame displays an attractive aged finish with general surface wear, while the rush seat is usable with expected wear and one wooden arm peg is chipped. A striking antique fireside, hall or hunting lodge chair with strong country house appeal.

Dimensions: height 110cm, height to arm 71cm, height to seat 49cm, seat depth 44cm, seat width 48cm, depth 62cm, width 64cm.
