Victorian Ebonised Gothic Revival Nursing Chair Moroccan Fabric Brass Castors

See Description for delivery options

A highly decorative late Victorian ebonised nursing chair in the Gothic Revival taste, distinguished by an unusually elaborate pierced and carved architectural back. The central panel combines pointed Gothic arches with dense repeating floral tracery, framed by substantial barley twist uprights and carved scroll terminals beneath the padded top rail. The low sprung seat and top rail have been sympathetically reupholstered in a richly coloured Moroccan inspired woven fabric in warm red, rust, cream and dark blue tones, giving the chair a striking decorative presence while complementing the black ebonised frame. Raised on turned front legs fitted with brass castors and swept rear supports also terminating in castors. Comparable late 19th century ebonised nursing chairs are commonly associated with the Victorian Gothic Revival and Aesthetic periods, although no specific designer or maker attribution can presently be established. The chair displays expected age related marks, rubbing and losses to the ebonised finish, particularly around the seat rails and frame, while the later upholstery presents well.
